True Midwifery

“You are a midwife, assisting at someone else’s birth.

Do good without show or fuss.

Facilitate what is happening rather than what you think ought to be happening.

If you must take the lead, lead so that the mother is helped,

yet still free and in charge.

When the baby is born, the mother will rightly say,

“We did it ourselves!”

– From the Tao Te Ching

A One Year Immersion into True Midwifery

9 November 2023 – 14 November 2024

“I am part of a worldwide web of women who are weaving the past and the future of birth into a beautiful blanket that holds us all in safety, in trust, in community, in support and in love”

– Laura, Silent Birthkeeper 2022

My name is Ruth Ehrhardt. I am a mother, traditional midwife, and birth attendant from South Africa. I am the founder and mother of True Midwifery and the author of the book The Basic Needs of a Woman in Labour which has now been translated into 15 different languages with more on the way!

I invite you to join me for the one-year Silent Birthkeeper Journey.

I have put this course together to share my own journey, learning, stories, and findings on this path of studying midwifery, being a birth attendant, and mother.I humbly invite you to come, listen, learn and share together.

Together we weave our threads together, keeping the tapestry of birth and birthkeeping alive.

The course will begin on Thursday the 9th of November 2023 and will cycle for one year until the 14th of November 2024. You will access the unfolding course content via the Teachable platform, meet monthly with your fellow Silent Birthkeepers via zoom and be part of a private Telegram support group.
